2020 SEASON

MAMMA MIA! 

SOPHIE SHERIDAN — age 20-25: pop soprano with a strong belt/mix. Someone who is full of life and love. Upon finding her Mother's (Donna) old diary, Sophie discovers she may have three possible dads. She is determined to bring them to the island and have her father walk her down the aisle at the wedding. Vocal range top: E5/bottom: F#3.

 

DONNA SHERIDAN — age 30-50: belter. After having her daughter at a young age, Donna started working at a Taverna on a remote Greek Island. She is the former lead singer of Donna and the Dynamos but now is the owner and operator the Taverna. Vocal range top: A5/bottom: E3.

 

SAM CARMICHAEL— age 30-50: baritone. One of Sophie's possible fathers. An American architect. Vocal range top: Ab4/bottom: D3.

 

BILL AUSTIN — age 30-50: baritone. One of Sophie's possible fathers. A writer and adventurer. Vocal range top: F#3/bottom: Bb2.

 

HARRY BRIGHT— age 40-55: high baritone/tenor. One of Sophie's possible fathers. A British banker, formerly a musician (plays the guitar) known as “Head Banger”. Vocal range top: F#4/bottom: C#3.

 

SKY — age 20-30: tenor. Sophie's fiancé; romantic and athletic. Vocal range top: D5/bottom: Eb3.

 

TANYA — age 30-50: strong belter. One of Donna's best friends and a former member of Donna and the Dynamos. She is recently divorced from her third husband and preparing for her fourth plastic surgery. Vocal range top: E5/bottom: E3.

 

ROSIE — age 30-50: strong belter. Donna's other best friend and the third member of Donna and the Dynamos. Unmarried and freespirited. She owns the New Woman Bookstore and is a renowned author of cookbooks. Vocal range top: D5/bottom: E3.

 

LISA & ALI — age 20-25: early 20’s; strong belters and dancers. Sophie’s best friends at her wedding. Intelligent, loving, and extremely loyal. Vocal range top: Db5/bottom: G3.

 

PEPPER — age 20-25: early 20’s, strong singer and dancer. Sky's best friend and groomsperson in his wedding. Works at Donna's Taverna as a waiter and gets flirty with Tanya. Energetic and fun-loving. Sidekick to Eddie. Vocal range top: F5/bottom: A4.

 

EDDIE — age 20-25: early 20’s, strong singer and dancer. Sky's best friend and stands in his wedding. Works at Donna's Taverna. Sidekick to Pepper. Vocal range top: F5/bottom: A4.

 

ENSEMBLE: all genders; all ages; strong singers and dancers. Ensemble members should be quirky and off beat. Diverse actor/singers with a strong contemporary rock/pop sensibility. 

 

RAGTIME

COALHOUSE WALKER JR. – age 26-38: Black/ African Descent. A proud and talented pianist. A leading man of power and presence while we discover his nobility and ferocity through his journey. Vocal range top: A4/bottom G2.

MOTHER – age 25-35: White/European Descent; beautiful soprano with strong belt. Graceful and gracious, a product of the American upper class. A kind woman with incredible moral fiber and fiercely independent. Vocal range: belt to C#, top: F#5/bottom G3.

TATEH – age 35-45: He challenges his old life and seeks a better one for his daughter; even when it seems he is beaten by society, his innate strength and humor lift him up. Full of genuine drive and heart. Vocal range top: F#4/bottom Bb2.

SARAH – age 18-25: Black/ African Descent. Lovely, headstrong and beautiful. She is filled with a strong will to live fueled by an innocent spirit. Falls deeply in love with Coalhouse after much resistance. Vocal range top: F#5/bottom G#3.

FATHER – age 35-40: White/European Descent. A salesman and a good, proud, upstanding citizen. He is an amateur explorer and ends up feeling alienated from his family when he returns to the “new” world. Vocal range top: F4/bottom A2

BOOKER T. WASHINGTON – age 40-55 Black/ African Descent. Incredibly intelligent social activist. He is an eloquent and articulate gentleman who preaches friendship and cooperation between Whites and Blacks as essential to the success of Blacks in America. Vocal range top: Eb4/bottom D3.

YOUNGER BROTHER – age 18-24: White/European Descent. Mother's younger brother. With his wiry frame and obsessive personality, he is an erratic soul. Influenced greatly by Goldman and joins The Coalhouse Gang to fight injustice. Vocal range top: F#4/bottom B2. 

GRANDFATHER – age 50-69: White/European Descent. Mother's very conservative father. A feisty, upper-class retired professor who holds on to the old ways. 

EVELYN NESBIT – age 18-21: A self-aware, beautiful vaudeville performer. The iconic symbol of beauty at the turn of the century. Vocal range top: D5/bottom B3. 

HARRY HOUDINI – age 25-40: The famous magician. With dark features and notable physical ability, he stands as a symbol of the “American Dream”. Vocal range top: G4/bottom E3.

HENRY FORD – age 30-43: An inventor. Very lanky, folksy, full of himself; there’s an edge underneath the public smile. Vocal range: tenor.

EMMA GOLDMAN – age 35-45: An anarchist and social activist. With an unapologetically demanding presence, she is a leader and powerful woman. Vocal range top: D5/bottom B3.

LITTLE BOY – age 9-14: White/European Descent. Mother and Father's son. He is open-hearted and curious with inexplicable clairvoyance. Never passes judgement on others. Vocal range top: D5/bottom E4.

LITTLE GIRL – age 7-10: Tateh's daughter. A confused and vulnerable child in a brand-new home, she is guarded and shy. Vocal range top: Bb4/bottom C4.

RICHARD RODGERS' GREATEST HITS: 

Casting is flexible between 4-8 people based on the needs of the Director and Music Director. 

 

BILLY ELLIOT 

BILLY – age 10-13: A boy who stumbles upon a ballet class and develops a passion for dance. To him, dance is a way to feel whole and free himself from the problems of life. He finds himself stuck between family expectations and doing what he loves. Vocal range top: c5/bottom E3. Should be a strong dancer, singer and actor.

MRS. WILKINSON – age 35-50: Runs the ballet classes in the local hall at Easington County Durham. Great energy, drive, determination, warmth and compassion. Doesn't suffer fools gladly. Good comedic skills. Good mover, tap experience an advantage. Northern England dialect. Vocal range top: Bb5/bottom Gb3.

DAD – age 40-55: Billy’s Dad is a working class Geordie miner. A narrow minded single parent trying to do the best for his family. At the end of his tether. Although he comes across with a tough exterior, underneath is a man who has a big heart. Northern England or Geordie dialect. Vocal range top: Eb4/bottom A2.

GRANDMA – age 60-75: Billy's eccentric grandmother. She is forgetful and a little aloof. A tough woman who has had to deal with a lot in her life. She has a great sense of humor and has a close relationship with Billy. Vocal range top: F#4/bottom F#3.

TONY – age 18 to 26: Billy’s older brother. Geordie miner. He is a hard line unionist, not afraid to stand up for what he believes, especially as far as the miner’s strike is concerned. Out spoken, loud and up for a fight. Vocal range top: F4/bottom D3.

MICHAEL – age 10-13: Billy's careless and fun-loving best friend. He lives in the realm of expressing oneself, going so far as to commonly dress in women's clothing. Vocal range top: B4/bottom A#3. Should be able to dance/tap, sing and act.

MR.BRAITHWAITE- age 30-55 piano accompanist and overall “right hand man” to Mrs. Wilkinson at the dance school. Dry Humor. Should be able to dance, tumble and/or splits. Also in Ensemble.

DEAD MUM- Billy’s mum, who died two years previously and who appears to him in a dream-like setting three times during the show. Also in Ensemble.

GEORGE – age 35-55: Billy’s Boxing teacher and a friend of his dads. Geordie miner. Also in Ensemble.

ADULT BILLY- age 20-30 very strong, classically trained ballet dancer. Does not need to be a singer. Also in Ensemble.

BALLET GIRLS- ages 9-14 should have basic ballet skills/knowledge; seeking a wide range of skill levels.

 

ENSEMBLE

open to all ethnicities; men and women of all shapes, sizes, and vocal types, who have solid singing voices and personalities to play many ensemble roles that include: Miners, Police Officers, Royal Ballet School Members; vocal requirements: the top note for the sopranos and tenors is an Ab; strong ability in learning dialects, seeking movers and dancers with modern and tap experience. Good part-singing performers who create distinguishable characters.
